PlaceBrackett's Landing
In 1877 a Canadian businessman named George Brackett began commercial logging on eighty acres along the lower Sammamish River, then known as Squak Slough [1]. He established Brackett's Landing there, with a sawmill and a steamboat dock that drew traffic from Seattle and Issaquah [1]. The Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway was built along the river to join Seattle with the transcontinental Northern Pacific Railway and with coal from mines near Issaquah [1]. In November 1888 the rails arrived at Bothell, and a boxcar served as a temporary station at Brackett's Landing until it was moved east in 1890 and replaced by a depot building [1]. Brackett had sold eighty acres of his timberland to David Bothell in 1884, and the settlement that grew took the Bothell family name [1].
