Foster was a community in King County, named for Joseph Foster, an early settler. Its post office first opened under that name in 1903 and closed its doors four years later, in 1907. The place had a school as well, for a while. Back in the 19th century, a ferry landing carried the Foster name too, set along the Duwamish River at the spot where the water meets the Green River Trail and 56th Avenue South. Foster Station, a stop for the Interurban, which was the Puget Sound Electric Railway, once stood on the ground where a Tukwila Park and Ride sits. The area was annexed in 1989 and folded into the city of Tukwila, though the name hangs on in the Foster Golf Links and in Joseph Foster Memorial Park. [1]
