“
A highway from Seattle along Lake Washington, first built as a brick road to Bothell.
61 s

The western half of SR 522 is an arterial street, called Lake City Way in Seattle and Bothell Way beyond it, hugging the north side of Lake Washington. In 1903 a Bothell businessman, Gerhard Ericksen, pressed the Washington State Legislature for money to build a road from Seattle to Bothell. Its first piece, 7 miles from Ravenna Park to Lake Forest Park, was finished in 1907. Bricks were laid over 4 miles between Lake Forest Park and Bothell by the state and county from 1911 through 1913. The complete route opened January 10, 1914, at the Boulevard Blowout, when 50 automobiles drove from Seattle to Bothell. Most of the brick got replaced by 1934, yet a stretch south of downtown Bothell survived. It carries the name Red Brick Road Park. [1]
