ViewStar Lake (Lake)
Military Road went in during the 1850s to tie Fort Steilacoom to Fort Bellingham, and it ran past a string of lakes that the army used as campgrounds, Star Lake among the three in South King County [1]. The road was finished in 1860 [1]. By 1892 there was a post office carrying the lake's name [1], and a school followed in 1898, rebuilt twice in the early 1900s [1]. That old schoolhouse is still standing near the water [1]. The lake itself is oligotrophic, which is the quiet way of saying the water is clean [1]. Eurasian milfoil, a noxious weed, has been treated there [1]. Rainbow trout are stocked and largemouth bass live in it [1]. Private homes surround much of the shoreline [1]. It sits in southern King County, in Lakeland North, with Lake Dolloff the other large lake there [1].
