Sal is a voice that rides along as you drive Washington's roads: the road ahead, the pass, the stories of the places you pass.
Lewis Lake Nature Park sits on the West Hill of Auburn and was finished in 2020 [1]. The city named it for Peter B. Lewis, a former mayor [1]. The site runs to about 9.25 acres, holding a lake of roughly two acres and about seven acres of mature forested upland [1]. Builders took care to leave the trees standing, and the quarter mile gravel loop around the water winds among cedars, conifers and alders beneath a mature canopy [1]. A footbridge crosses a wetland at the north end, built in 2020 by the Auburn Noon Lions Club with labor they gave [1]. Great blue herons, ducks, geese and songbirds turn up, and at times a bird of prey [1]. Anglers do not do well in the pond, though kids from the neighborhood go after sunfish at the south end [1]. Benches and a bench swing face the water [1].
