PlaceAuburn Environmental Park
Sal is a voice that rides along as you drive Washington's roads: the road ahead, the pass, the stories of the places you pass.
Auburn Environmental Park came together slowly, one land purchase at a time, between 1996 and 2014. The park got its designation in 2004, and when the buying was done, 207 acres had been set aside for good. The southern portion is where visitors find the special features. A birding tower stands off Western Avenue, and an elevated boardwalk, about 1,200 feet of it, carries walkers over a big wetland before coming down at West Main Street. Interpretive signs line the way, with picnic tables and benches for anyone who wants to linger. Marsh wrens, blue herons, hummingbirds, dragonflies and salamanders all call the place home. The rest of the land is kept as open space, and it stays that way. [1]
