Pacific incorporated in 1909, and a town that small had to see to its own comforts. Water, fire protection, and electric supply were all improved over the years, and the light came first from the residents themselves. In 1919 the community built its own electric light system, and a man named James Edward Dyler ran it. That was a fair piece of ambition for a place that had been platted in 1906, with a post office and a few stores along Third Avenue. The trouble was the town kept growing, and the system quickly proved inadequate. A homemade plant can stretch just so far. Puget Power took over electric service, and that was the end of the town's own light company. [1]
