ViewFivemile Lake (Lake)
Sal is a voice that rides along as you drive Washington's roads: the road ahead, the pass, the stories of the places you pass.
Fivemile Lake lies in southern King County, within the census-designated place known as Lakeland South. Several lakes share that ground, among them Lake Killarney, Lake Geneva, and Trout Lake. Military Road follows the eastern shore. Built in the 1850s, that road at one time tied Fort Steilacoom to Fort Bellingham. Its purpose was to carry supplies and troops from one fort to the other, and to draw more settlers into the region. Construction began in 1858 and was done by 1860. Fivemile Lake Park sits on the eastern bank, managed by King County, with fields, trails, and a dock. A playground opened there in 2016. Rainbow trout are stocked in the water, and bluegill and largemouth bass live in it as well. Because of heavy nutrient levels, the lake counts as moderately eutrophic. [1]
