PlacePark Place Middle School
Sal is a voice that rides along as you drive Washington's roads: the road ahead, the pass, the stories of the places you pass.
A school that changes its job three times without moving an inch has a few stories in its walls. Park Place started out in 1976 as Monroe's high school. Additions came in 1980, then a library in 1990, then an Art and Technology remodel in 1999, the same year it became a junior high. It turned into a middle school in 2005. The replacement ran two years and finished in 2018. Nearly everything got rebuilt, with 32 classrooms arranged in pods around common spaces and a deck planted with a living green roof of succulents. The original gym stayed, fully renovated. Of everything in that building, a gym was the one worth keeping. The whole place sits on 19.4 acres and has room for 778 students. [1]
