ViewSteel Lake (Lake)
Steel Lake sits inside the city of Federal Way, down in the southern part of King County, Washington [1]. Steel Lake Park runs along the lake's southern shore [1]. Just east of the water lies Interstate 5, and on the far side of that highway sits Lake Dolloff [1]. The lake takes its name from Arthur Steele, one of the settlers who came to the Federal Way area [1]. Homesteaders had begun arriving there in 1871 [1]. South of the main park is a plot of about eleven acres known as the Steel Lake Annex [1]. The city of Federal Way once proposed putting an operations and maintenance facility on that ground, to hold trucks, tractors and other heavy equipment [1]. The idea drew strong local objection, since the annex serves as public space with ballfields and a skate park, and the city set the proposal aside in 2023 [1]. The lake itself is mesotrophic [1]. Steel Lake Park covers 52 acres and includes a beach and a play area [1]. The water holds rainbow trout, largemouth bass and yellow perch [1].
