PlaceBereiter House
Sal is a voice that rides along as you drive Washington's roads: the road ahead, the pass, the stories of the places you pass.
The third floor of the Bereiter House was the attic, though nobody up there would have called it that. About 800 square feet, split into two rooms. One held a pool table. The other was a card room. Between them, that was the whole of the top floor. Down below, the house was listed at fifteen rooms. The first floor held the greater share, the second a handful, and the attic two. Ceilings ran ten feet high. A small basement held only the boiler, which fed twelve radiators. Stained wood paneling covered the walls of the attic and of the office downstairs. Plaster finished the other walls and ceilings. A house with a pool table in the attic has an easy air about it, I always thought. [1]
