PlaceDick's Drive-In at Crossroads
Dick's Drive-In began in 1954 in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood [1]. The chain debuted on the Eastside in the early 1960s, on Bellevue Way Northeast [1]. It later opened a branch in Kent and one in Edmonds, the Edmonds opening coming a decade before the Bellevue one [1]. After fifty years, Dick's returned to the Eastside with an eighth branch at the Crossroads Shopping Center in Bellevue [1]. The new drive-in covered over 5,000 square feet and held three kitchens, one a commissary for catering and for prepping its food truck, which had started rolling around the area the year before [1]. Crews came in from other branches so the Bellevue staff would not be overwhelmed as the Edmonds staff had been a decade earlier [1].
Jasmine Donovan, the chain's president, found all the love there amazing [1]. The mayor of Bellevue, Lynne Robinson, gave credit to the late co-founder Dick Spady and his siblings, saying the family's business was known for good food, fair employment practices and investment in the community [1]. Dick's burger had taken shout-outs from Sir Mix-A-Lot and Macklemore and won the readers' best burger poll [1].
