PlaceDuvall Tavern
Sal is a voice that rides along as you drive Washington's roads: the road ahead, the pass, the stories of the places you pass.
The Duvall Tavern went up in 1934, a year after prohibition ended, and it has stayed in business ever since. That's a long run for any tavern, though the story people tell about it comes from 1963. Over the course of two days the place changed ownership three times. A gambler known around the Valley took it in a card game, then turned around and sold it to a second gambler so he could settle a gambling debt of his own. Nobody seems to have recorded what the regulars made of all that. A walking tour of the town's history lists a tavern won at poker right alongside the moving of the town and the bailing out of graves, and that's decent company for a tavern to keep. [1]
