PlaceLon Brown
Sal is a voice that rides along as you drive Washington's roads: the road ahead, the pass, the stories of the places you pass.
Lon Brown's full name was Alonzo C. Brown, and he turned up in Duvall around 1911 after a stretch mining silver and gold near Granite Falls. He'd been born in Pennsylvania, married a Norwegian immigrant named Petra Lund in 1908, and settled in with her. He owned a pool hall and the confectionary, plus a silent movie theater, and the town's very first gathering of its officials took place in the back room of that pool hall. When Duvall chose its first mayor in December 1912, he took 156 votes to his opponent's one. The house he built in 1914 still carries his name. Folks described him as a promoter and a civic booster, and he put up a large building on Main Street for the Snoqualmie Valley Fair. [1]
