PlaceRedmond Ridge
Weyerhaeuser bought fifteen hundred acres of timberland called Novelty Hill, near the small town of Redmond, and the logging that followed there gave Redmond both jobs and lumber [1]. Quadrant Homes broke ground on roughly a thousand of those acres in 1999, reaching buildout in the summer of 2006 with 1,228 units, counting its sub-communities [1]. Cam West, Carino, Murray Franklin, Centex and Mosaic also built there [1]. More than half the acreage was kept as forest and parks, and protected forests and wetlands cover sixty percent of it [1]. The design follows the national parks, using rough lumber, native plantings, fallen logs and stone, much of it recycled from the land itself [1]. A trail system ties the neighborhoods to Marketplace, the Business Park and regional trails beyond, and there is a ten-acre King County baseball field, neighborhood parks, play structures and two circle parks with outdoor fire pits [1]. The Community Center sits at Cedar Park [1]. Redmond Ridge is one set of governing documents over several kinds of development, mixing houses, condominiums, townhomes, apartments, shops and a business park [1].
